Spire Lee Hospital Cambridge
Spire Lee Hospital in Histon Cambridge has recently undergone a significant investment programme that saw both the hospital and its grounds being refurbished and updated.
We were contracted to complete the exterior groundworks. The scope of works ranged from groundworks and hard landscaping all the way through to the soft landscaping of both the patient gardens and carparks.
The hard landscape package involved both resin bound and tarmac pathways that ran throughout the grounds. There were a number of constraints regarding the paths, the most significant being that a no dig solution had to be found for their installation to protect the TPO’d trees in the gardens. The solution was to use a geocell cellular support system to give the necessary structural support to the pathways.
As the Cambridge landscaping works were being carried out in a live environment it was imperative that correct health and safety procedures and protocols were observed at all times. A number of the works also had to take place around the patient sleeping quarters which required care and consideration during their installation.
The soft landscaping package saw significant areas of planting in the carpark as well as creating a relaxing tranquil garden in the centre of the hospital to give patients a space to reconnect with nature.
