Paving and Hot Tub

Summit Landscapes were recently called to this property in Sawston to speak to the client about transforming their garden. The garden was little more than a plain lawn with a flowerbed on either side that ran from the patio at the back door all the way to the back wall.

During Summit Landscapes’ design consultation, the client told us they wanted to create something at the back of the garden that was both contemporary and functional. It had to be a warm, clean and inviting area that they could use for both relaxing and entertaining in the warmer months. The client expressed their interest in a hot tub so we discussed all the options for installing a sunken hot tub in a paved area.

Once the plans were finalised and drawn up, Summit Landscapes began work on the garden project. The paving materials were chosen to match an existing patio outside the back of the house and a new 15m Whitby stone path with edging setts was laid along the left hand side of the garden to join the patio and the new area at the back of the garden.

Flower Bed

In the flowerbed to the left hand side of the path, Summit Landscapes planted a mixture of evergreen, perennial and herbaceous shrubs and installed a series of warm, low-energy LED up-lights along the edge of the path. The existing pergola was moved to the right slightly to create more space for the new flower bed.

Summit Landscapes excavated the 28m² area to the rear of the garden with a digger and altered the levels to allow for water runoff. We compacted a limestone base and laid the matching warm, Sandstone paving on top of this.

Hot Tub

For the sunken hot tub, we excavated the chosen area, laid concrete foundations and covered it in a geo-textile membrane. The associated drainage and electrics were installed and the hot tub was lowered down into place. Modern composite decking was laid around the edge of the hot tub to provide a safe, non-slip surface when entering and exiting the hot tub.

The walls to the back and side of the new paved hot tub area were covered in a 23m contemporary Cedar screen.
