Dropped Kerb, Block Paved Driveway, Paving & Beds

Summit Landscapes were asked to completely redesign and relandscape the front of this client’s beautiful house in Harston, Cambridgeshire.

The client had a pretty good idea of what they wanted but after a design consultation, new ideas were suggested that the client was keen to include. The final design included a dropped kerb where the property’s driveway meets the road, a 64m² Tegula block paved driveway, a 22m² paved pathway, a re-shaped front lawn and new flower beds.

Dropped Kerb

– Dropped kerb six sections wide
– Cut out and break existing kerbs and Tarmac
– Installed new dropped kerb to include low-level edgings and two sloping kerbs concreted into place
– Compacted and re-levelled base
– Re-Tarmacked path 10m x 1.5m using 6mm dense course Tarmac
– Compacted in layers to finish using one-tonne roller

64m² Tegula Block Paved Driveway

– We excavated the drive to a depth of 250mm and removed all waste from site
– Edging was installed with concrete haunching to eliminate sideways movement
– The sub-base was be compacted and a geotextile membrane installed to suppress weed growth
– 175mm of MOT Type 1 was laid and compacted in layers to make up the structural layer of the drive
– 25mm of sharp sand was compacted and screeded
– Tegula blocks 60mm thick were laid to finish the drive
– Blocks were pointed with kiln dried sand and compacted
– Drive seal was applied to the surface

22m² Sandstone Paving Front path

– Excavated area using digger
– Altered levels allowing for run off
– Laid 75mm compacted limestone base
– Laid paving on 25-40mm continuous mortar mix
– SBR and cement binder slurry was used on non-porous paving

Planting

– Summit Landscapes used a mixture of evergreen, perennial and herbaceous shrubs to create the planting scheme

Lawn Edging

– We installed paving setts on the edge of the lawn which do not abut the drive or path
