Decking, Lawn & Raised Beds
Our client was keen to completely redesign their large, rectangular lawned garden in Girton, Cambridgeshire. It was to include raised decking, a new pathway and raised vegetable beds.
We began by preparing an area for a large 1000-litre water butt. This water butt was connected to the house’s guttering to collect rainwater runoff to be used for gardening purposes. We then constructed the sub-frame and laid the composite decking to completely conceal the water butt.
The raised decking has an attractive brushed stainless steel balustrade with glass panels. It also has recessed energy-efficient LED lights installed along each edge for both aesthetics and safety. In front of the decked area, we created new flower beds and planted young lavender.
We then laid a smooth, water-permeable resin bound gravel pathway to the side of the house and down the side of the lawn to the bottom of the garden, leading to an existing summer house/garden office.
We paved a section on the opposite side of the garden to the path with Indian sandstone paving slabs to act as a surface for the six raised vegetable/flower beds that we constructed from Grade 1 timber sleepers. An attractive wooden screen separated the paved area from the raised beds.
The existing lawn wasn’t in the best shape, so we stripped the grass, prepared the area and re-turfed the entire lawn with fresh, lush turf.
