Block Paved Driveway & Retaining Tiered Flowerbed

Summit Landscapes were asked to carry out work to complete this beautiful driveway and retaining wall/tiered flowerbed in Swaffham Prior. There was a large existing tree in the middle of the patchy lawn at the front of the property with a grassy slope that ran down to a paved area in front of the front.

Summit Landscapes began by felling the tree, removing it from site and creating a large 76m² block paved driveway with an attractive retaining wall that was made up of tiered flowerbeds and some central steps. 38m² of turf was laid at the front of the house to create an attractive lush, full lawn at street level.

76m² Tegula Block Paving

– Excavated the drive to a depth of 250mm and removed all waste from site
– Edging was installed with concrete haunching to eliminate sideways movement
– The base was compacted and a geotextile membrane installed to suppress further weed growth
– 175mm of MOT Type 1 was put down and compacted in layers to make up the structural layer of the drive
– 25mm of sharp sand was compacted and screeded
– Tegula blocks 60mm thick were laid to finish the drive
– These Tegula blocks were pointed with kiln dried sand and compacted
– Drive seal was then applied to the surface

Drainage – ACO Drains

– Installed 20m of ACO drains along the front of the property and concreted into position after the falls were determined by the site foreman.
– Ran drainage pipes into soakaway system
